Announcing Art for Mito 2024

We are thrilled to announce the Art for Mito art sale and exhibition, an event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for mitochondrial disease research. This special event will take place from November 1st to 10th at the Culturedale Hub, located in Northgate House, Halifax.

We are honoured to be collaborating with Culturedale for this event, who very kindly donated the venue space. We have also collaborated with Leigh Network, with the proceeds being shared between both charities, as a tribute to the incredible Faye Wylie, one of our featured artists, who we sadly lost recently and who founded Leigh Network.

To launch Art for Mito, we are hosting a special preview event on November 1st at 6PM. This evening will celebrate both art and the mito community, offering attendees the chance to meet some of their artists, purchase their works, and learn more about how their contributions are making a real difference to those with mitochondrial disease.

We are excited to present an incredible line-up of artists from West Yorkshire and beyond, who have all kindly contributed pieces for the sale and exhibition. Among them are Roger Davis, a renowned local talent, Matthew Evans, Carol Banks, and the esteemed hyperrealist artist Darren Baker, who was famously commissioned to paint the Queen. In addition to these celebrated artists, we are proud to feature some amazing works from talented individuals who live with mitochondrial disease, including Paul Jorden, Triste Simonet-Shaw, and, of course, Faye Wylie.

So, whether you’re an art enthusiast, a supporter of the cause, or someone just looking to make a difference, we invite you to join us at the Culturedale Hub. This exhibition will be a great occasion showcasing the artwork, raising some funds and most importantly increasing awareness about mito. For those of you who can’t make the event, the remaining pieces of art will also be available to view and buy online, on our website, from the 12th- 30th November, so you don’t miss out!

Check out our events webpage for more information and launch event tickets.

Light Up For Mito Glow Walk

We are excited to announce our upcoming Glow Walk, an event aimed at raising awareness for mitochondrial disease as part of the Light Up For Mito campaign during World Mitochondrial Disease Week (16-22nd Sept). The concept behind Glow Walk is simple: walk from point A to point B with as many or as few people as you’d like, using our glow wands to shine a light on mito awareness.
If you’re in the Elland area, don’t miss our local Glow Walk on Saturday, September 21st! We’ll start at MMM HQ in Elland once night falls and walk to Wainhouse Tower, which will be illuminated in green to honor mito. Bring your glow wands and join us! Stay tuned for more details and sign-up information. We would love to see Glow Walks happening all over the country, with your help!
If you’d like to organize a Glow Walk in your local area, here’s a simple guide:
Choose Your Route: Select two points in your area and gather your friends, family, and supporters! The route can be any length, and you can have as many or as few participants as you’d like, whether it’s just your family or a large group.
Gather Your Glow Gear: Once you’ve settled on your route and gathered your walkers, contact us to let us know how many glow sticks you’ll need, and we’ll send them to you free of charge. You can also wear your MMM tops, bring Light Up candles, or any other glowing items to enhance the experience!
Make It Extra Fun (optional): Not keen on just walking? Add a costume theme, turn it into a run, make it a pub crawl, or hand out mito awareness leaflets in your neighborhood. The goal is simply to participate in the campaign and raise awareness in any way you can. If you wish to fundraise, consider creating a JustGiving page for your event. However, please note that street collections require a special license, so we recommend avoiding donation buckets. That said, you are welcome to accept any donations offered! This event is primarily focused on raising awareness, so fundraising is entirely optional.
Keep an eye out for updates and sign-up sheets for our Glow Walk in Elland! We look forward to seeing your Glow Walks light up the night in support of World Mitochondrial Disease Week!

Wonderful World Mito Week 2023.

World Mito Week took place between 18th-24th September 2023. My Mito Mission had a bumper fundraising week to mark the occasion.

Steph & Jake’s Mito Mission had a fundraising and awareness day at their local Co-op and Ronni & Freddi’s Mito Mission held a Family Fun Day in memory of their precious boys.

Emma’s, Ella’s and Lucas’s Mito Missions took part in The Big Push for Mito 2023, which highlighted occasional wheelchair use as well as raising awareness of mitochondrial disease. Regan’s Mito Mission also did a 50k Walk in a Day to celebrate World Mito Week.

My Mito Mission also had some landmarks light up green to raise mito awareness. As well as The Oastler Building at Huddersfield University and Merry Hill Shopping Centre which lit up in 2022, we also had OVO Hydro and the Wallace Tower light up.

We are now looking forward to more buildings lighting up in 2024. Do you know of somewhere that can light up green to raise Mito awareness? If you do, get in touch!
